Integral Business Leadership: A Futurist and a CEO Discuss the Destination and Difficulties (12:00 - 2:45)

Patricia Aburdene and Jeff Klein

Patricia Aburdene, in her book Megatrends 2010: The Rise of Conscious Capitalism, states that, “Capitalism mirrors the awareness of its members. And we capitalists are in the midst of a massive awakening.” She will describe the trends she sees and the future she hopes and believes is emerging. Jeff Klein, in his book Working for Good: Making a Difference While Making a Living, describes the 5 essential skills to creating sustainable businesses, happy, healthy people and a sane and humane world. Jeff is running his own business and working to make this happen every day. He is a founding member of the Conscious Capitalism Alliance, a group of like-minded CEOs. Jeff and Patricia will bring their unique and highly cultivated perspectives to a conversation with participants about what it takes to lead business in an integral way, and what it takes to make business work well for all the stakeholders.

Exercises in Evolutionary Emergence (3:15 - 6:00)

Jeff Carreira and Carter Phipps, EnlightenNext

In this three hour workshop Carter Phipps and Jeff Carreira of EnlightenNext will guide you through contemplative and discussion based exercises designed to catalyze the emergence of spiritual insight and new and extraordinary ways of perceiving the world. For 25 years, working closely with spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen, Phipps and Carreira have been helping to lead a highly focused and committed group of evolutionary explorers who are pioneering a new capacity to come together beyond the constraints of pride, competition and subtle forms of cynicism that so often limit the possibilities of human interaction. By working together during this workshop you will learn how to generate and enter into a spiritually charged atmosphere with others that is pregnant with evolutionary potential. Join us for this afternoon of exploration and experimentation in the art and science of collective evolutionary emergence.

Special phone-in "live-presence" by Ken Wilber, gracing us with his wisdom about the Implications of Integral Leadership

Keynote Presentations:

Playing with Sharp Knives: The Three Stages of Leadership

Robb Smith

You don’t hand sharp knives to novices…but anyone can read and try to apply Integral. Is that ethical? As CEO of Integral Life, Robb Smith has come to understand how long it takes to really be able to use Integral Theory effectively - without doing unintentional harm. The learning curve to really “get” Integral Theory is steep. Yet the cognitive part is the easier part. We may be overly enthused and insufficiently skilled to play with such “sharp knives.” In our desire to make a difference we may rush prematurely into application. The ethics of our own learning curve may dictate that each of us needs to wait until we are at the 3rd stage of Integral Leadership before we try to help others.

A Momentous Leap: Integral Christianity, Unity and a Powerful New Approach Susan Beck and Deborah Frownfelter

Unity is an international spiritual movement, founded in the late 1800s, that is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity.  (Note: for those of you who practice Buddhism, there are some strong similarities in the attention Unity pays to the importance of being in silence and of mastering our minds)  Now numbering over 900 ministries and groups around the world, Unity has embarked on an exciting new experiment. 13 US ministries have committed to piloting a three-year personal, ministry and leadership development process called the Transformation Experience, based on an innovative adaptation of Ken Wilber’s integral model called the “Thriving Ministry Model." This process is designed to support them in preparing to make the “Momentous Leap” to Tier 2/Integral. Susan and Deborah will share the process, the current state of successes and challenges, and what we can all learn from this. Their approach could become a role model for building effective Tier 1 to Tier 2 conveyor belts in the domain of faith and spirituality. For more info on Unity go to www.unity.org

Plenary Exploration:

Knowledge Café & Open Space

Mike Hohnen and Terry “T” Poling

In the spirit of our Homecoming – building our tribe and learning from each other – we will participate in conversations that matter and make a difference to us and to the world. Together, we will illuminate our theme, Integral Leadership: The Quest and the Questions. What does it mean to translate Integral Theory into action in a world that is both enthusiastic and reluctant to change? How can we better understand and integrate the polarity of our own hope and hesitation? What are the compelling questions driving our quests.

By using Knowledge Café and Open Space technologies, Mike Hohnen and Terry "T” Poling will skillfully weave us through an emergent process that will help us reflect and feel more deeply into aspects of ourselves, as leaders, that are perhaps unknown and waiting to be explored and applied with intention. We all want what is best for our planet, our communities and our relationships. Within the rigor of facilitated conversations, we intend to bridge wishful thinking with practical applications. We hope to transcend our sense of individual caring to discover our shared aspirations for change in our world ... and why that might make a difference?

You’ll be engaging in a collective “we-space" of highly intelligent, integral thinkers and practitioners (your tribe); and you’ll have the opportunity to introduce and explore your burning questions with like-minded and passionate people. We expect you will experience a heightened STATE of pure joy, AND our greatest desire is that you will walk away:

  • Identifying partners and potential cohorts who share similar “integral leadership” energy.
  • Saying “hmm…that’s a perspective I never considered.”
  • With practical information to help you apply Integral Theory in your business, leadership, community and family settings.
  • Being able to experience and implement a well-designed collective conversation technology.

Morning Practice at Boulder Integral:

Meditation for Evolutionaries

Jeff Salzman

The goal of this practice is to start our day with greater awareness, intention, discipline and love. It’s a chance to gather your energies, to get in touch with your highest and best self, and to recommit to spirit, other people and your work in the world. Jeff Salzman leads the sessions. About half the time is dedicated to silent meditation; and half is dedicated to various integral teachings and practices. Please come with an open mind and willing heart.
